    Default Hercus 260 Footprint

    Gday all,
After squeezing in my Colchester and a couple of mills, my small shed is just about at max capacity, however I’ve always wanted a 260 Atm.
Could a kind hercus owner please quickly chuck a tape over their 260 ATM on the factory steel cabinet and let me know how much space I’ll need to make to fit one in?
I’m after an overall length and depth of the lathe on the cabinet, height of the headstock and any extra distance it’ll need off the wall if the motor hangs off the back of the cabinet.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    James

You will need an extra 140mm minimum clearance between a wall and the headstock cover in order to be able to open it.

Just on an off chance, you wouldn't have a brochure of Hercus 9 with the dimensions on it.
I want to get a cover made from my 9, unfortunately it is in pieces atm.

    Thanks Mark.

Hercus brochures for the 9 inch models don't seem to have overall dimensions.
I can measure my 9A, if you have specific queries.

    Basically I am after measurements,

Height, from top of lathe to bottom of tray, ( the 260 is 18")

Length, any part that overhangs the head stock end, otherwise I will use the measurements of the tray.

Width, from front of tray to anything that overhands at rear. ( the 260 is 24")

The plan is to get a Heavy Duty cover made that will attach to base of the tray.
I live in a very dusty climate, I found covers like this is the only way to stop the dust getting in.

    Cheers,
    Mark.

The tray I have is a simple rectangle with curved corners, I think it's a standard Hercus one but mounted to a non-Hercus table. NB: There are other types of tray, e.g. with angled corners that I think are bigger.
Mine has angled lips, dimensions at the extremes of these are 44.5" x 12".
All dimensions below are taken from the top edges of the angled tray lips, except for the height.
At the back, the motor is the rearmost part, and it overhangs the tray by 12" (24" total). Being an early version, there is no pivoting adjustment for the motor belt - later pivoted type may overhang more? My motor slides vertically to adjust the belt, so would not increase the overhang.
At the front, the cross slide handle is 4.5" in front of the tray. Hinged headstock cover, Norton gearbox, saddle wheel, etc also overhang but not as far as the cross slide handle.
At the left, the headstock gear cover doesn't overhang. It is flush with the left side of the tray.
Height is 27.75" from top of countershaft big pulley to the bottom of the tray. That is with the belt tensioning lever in its lowered position. Obviously, I have the common "upright" motor drive type.

    Hope that helps.

Do you still need help Mark? I just landed 2 of them and will be in the shop tomorrow if you need factory original measurements. Let me know. They are late model 260s sitting on original stands.

    Cheers
