Dating an old Hercus 9" flat belt lathe
I've recently looked at an old 9" swing flat belt Hercus without a screwcutting gearbox; I guess that makes it a Model B. The lathe's Serial Number is VB 320. Does any member have information which would provide a production date (month and year) for this lathe, please?

I have a list (source unknown) that says that in 1941, Hercus lathes serial numbers 142 to 324 were made.

Thank you Jordan; that's brilliant. I hadn't thought that the lathe was only a few years older than I am!!

sorry for the delay in responding. It would most likely be a C model in a machine that early, the VB stands for Vee Bed. There are no A or B models on my register until 1943, at least none registered yet.
