Default Hercus ARM and No.0 Mill recommissioning.

Hi all, thought I'd start a thread about the 2 machines I've recently purchased. The first is a Hercus ARM:

The second being a Hercus No.0 mill:

Both machines are ex highschool and to me atleast, look in good condition.

So current progress is that I have cleaned both machines and removed most of the 3 phase gear. The plan is to convert the ARM to single phase and the No.0 to vfd, if I can get the original motor wired in delta.

The lathe needs a tool post (either a generic qctp or one from amh). The mill is pretty well ready to go once I sort out the motor.

I'll try to keep this thread updated and hopefully some hercus gurus can answer some of my questions along the way. Im a aircraft tech by trade so the electricals and what tooling I need is all new to me.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

    Looks like a great score!
If I were you I would consider finding a VFD for the lathe as well... it would be far more user-friendly than changing belts...
You also have the benefit of retaining reverse. (Easier than finding a reversible/switchable single phase motor)
Alternatively, get a quote for installing a 3 phase circuit! Plug and play! 😉

OMG! 1st thing to do is re-paint those covers and guards!
Nice score. Check your TS serial # against the bed #. Its not uncommon for school, (or anywhere really that has multiple same machines) for parts to be interchanged.
Is that a couple of collets in the tray on the lathe? Did you get any other accessories? Outside jaws for the 3 jaw. 4 jaw chuck. Faceplate?

    Cheers Phil

The collets are for the mill (took a bit to figure out as ive never used collets before) havent seen them on ebay, the end mills that came with it have a thread on the end that screws into the collet.

Lathe only came with a live center, also need to source a chuck key (dad has a seig c6 which probably has a metric key that doesnt fit).

The mill came with the dividing head and tail stock, a horizontal driveshaft with a cutter fitted, and the standard table vice.

    Hi Jeff,
What size is the square for the key? I have a couple of orphan chuck keys... I also have a couple of spare MT2 jacobs chucks for the tailstock if you are interested... (I'm in Sydney)

I'm super jealous of your dividing head!

Looks like yer got the tools to make yer own key.

The stock Hercus lathe tool post would be an easy make in the mill as well.

For something flash, I'm sold on them Aloris...
