Taper turning attachment
This project might suit the Hercus . It appears to be based on the SB 9 lathe

I have same article and its another gunadoo that will wait until the lathe gets moved into the shed. At the moment it is in the garage and too close to the wall to access properly. It certainly seems a very cost effective upgrade.

There's another TTA design that has been mentioned on this forum, with plans in a PDF file of about 1MB, to suit Hercus.
The designer Bernie O'Dea claims advantages over a conventional TTA.
I can't find it here now, but I have a copy I can send anyone who asks.

The rice planter and the fork lever doover appeal to me as they are low tech.
In third world countries they are relatively easy to make and save the operator a lot of back breaking work while improving productivity.
I am a sucker for simple but useful mechanisms.

On the face of it (not having one), it looks like there's no greater disadvantage than if you have a rear toolpost fitted (a bonus feature?).
Needs to have a slotted cross slide though, or at least a flat one that can be drilled and tapped, to mount the auxilliary slide.

Hi,
The attachment appears to be above the lathe bed and doesn't use the low mounting point on the back of the bed that Hercus used for their attachment. It can be used with any lathe bed with a similar profile bed to the Southbend. Applicable to lathe beds with or without the taper turning attachment mounting point.
The rear toolpost which I took to be a rear parting tool is not but is the cutting tool mounted upside down and on a dovetail slide controlled by the sine bar at the back.
The cutting toolpost is on a freely moving dovetail slide which, as the text mentions, is not directly operated by the cross slide but is positioned from the rear. A sub-slide similar to what I believe may be found on larger lathes. It appears as though the turning tool is on the back to avoid any link passing under the work to be turned which would reduce the lathe swing even further than the T slot cross slide would.
The details which would make or break this design would be the fine cross and the sinebar adjusters.
