removing pin from worm
Hi All,
[ solved the apron wheel pin ]
The key in the worm looks to be held in with a pin. Or the pin is a part of the key. Do I need to support the worm in some way before knocking the pin out?

Justin,
A while back I fully restored a Model a and took lots of images, will have a photo of how the pin is installed if that will help.
Please let me know which part.

Michael,
Here is the bit.
I have tried tapping the pin lightly, but I am concerned that hitting it hard will spread the top or the pin, or stress the worm sleeve or damage the worm itself.
The photos show that the key itself will come out, but I assume the pin is holding it in. I can see the pin on the other side of the key.

Justin,
Have found a few images that will help you.
As you will be able to see the key is held in place with the pin.
Hope this helps, have lots of images that I took as I restored the lathe, unfortunately I still have not got to use the lathe, moved towns and built a house, I still have to do the electrics and then I will be able to use

Michael,
Thanks for the images. The apron is now apart and being stripped!

Justin,
Great hope the images helped.
I noticed a old thread that mentioned how to remove the pin, using a G clamp, search for Removing the worm drive from a power feed apron
The link should be near the bottom of this page under similar threads.
Re your other post about the paint layers, had a look through my images before cleaning and from what I can remember the filler was a light grey and the cast metal was a dark colour except where it had been machined.
As my Lathe was light green I re painted with Killrust spray pack, colourbond Wilderness, was that close to original.
Good luck with the restoration.
Michael
