Hercus wiring
Hi all, just new here and I need some help. I've beenrestoring my Hercus model A over the last few months and have it almost readyto start earning it's keep with some hobby turning. It didn't have a motor whenI got it and after some searching I managed to pick one up. I have done somereading on how it's wired but I can't figure it.
The motor is a single phase reversible with a start and runwindings, I think that's what it says. I have a photo of the drawing on themotor, the power connectors on the motor K, AZ, A and EN and a phot of thepower board on the lathe, does anyone know what wire is connected to where?
Sparkies are at a premium just now, they say it could beweeks before I could get on due to the recent storms.
All I knowabout electricity is you turn the light switch and the light comes on.
I would really appreciate an help

I notice you are a first time poster, so welcome to the forums.
The bad news is I doubt whether anyone will buy into helping with this.
Because of the requirement for a reversible motor the connections on the motor have to be disconnected and taken back to the control box/contactor and that is not really a job for DIY electricians.
You will see a lot of electrical stuff on these forums (some of it quite complicated) but mostly it's about what people have done for themselves - then the onus is on the readers to determine whether they will copy that or not.
If responders offer advice and things go pear shaped even if it's not their fault there are still bad feelings involved and some might even say liability
If "All I knowabout electricity is you turn the light switch and the light comes on" then I really recommend you wait for a sparky to become available.

I had a look at some of the wiring diagrams I have for lathes, the reversing wiring is quite complicated. Would reinforce using an electrician.
Something more fundamental to think about: On a lathe with a threaded spindle nose, do you really need reverse?
I have only ever used reverse on lathes with a camlock spindle nose, I've never been game to use it on my hercus because of the threaded spindle nose.

Thanks BobL and rickw72 for your reply's, after much head scratching, reading and mapping I have been able to sort it but I think I'll avoid such things in the future as I still have the head ache that gave myself last night. I'll post the answer to the puzzle little later after I go back to shed, someone else may find it helpful.
