Thumbs up Yes Please if I'm not too late

    Hi Mal,
First of all a big thank you for sending the ts quill to our holiday resort for me. Holiday was probably the last time my wife will get to Aus, she is not well.
I have decided to take a deep breath and order one of your T slotted cross slides for my 9A if you have made sufficient.

Excuse the slow progress, it still needs a further investment of $9000 (which I don't have yet) and an few more orders to make it happen. If you can't wait, I suggest you make your own or talk to "pipeclay" on this forum who can make a steel one to order. It will not be an exact replica of the original but will perform the same function. Thankyou to the members who have offered to pay up front but there are still many things that can go wrong in production and I'd sooner wait until I have a finished product.
I am now starting to realise why Australian manufacturing is in such poor shape. There have been massive delays at every step in the process, due to poor delivery times of the various tooling required and constant redo's due to manufacturing blunders. I have almost given up on ever finding honest, reliable, accurate and cost effective resources in this country.
If you need to make contact about these or any other part that is being made, please contact through the links below, not through this forum, which is intended for the exchange of information between owners, not as a sales tool for AMH.

My version of the extended t-slotted x-slide, Chris will be posting a product review shortly. Still not enough numbers to initiate a production run, but I am hopeful it won't be too much longer.

I've been haranguing Mal for a few years to find me a Hercus slotted cross-slide. He must have gotten sick of it, so he had one made for me!

It's early days, but I feel the cross-slide is a big improvement over the original. It was a cinch to install with everything fitting nicely.

It has 8 gib screws versus 5 in the original. I've done a little bit of parting-off with the new cross-slide and it feels more rigid and suffers less chatter. One of my reasons for wanting an extended slotted cross-slide was to fit a rear-mounted parting-off tool. The extra rigidity of the new cross-slide may obviate the need for that.

The graduated aluminium insert is MUCH easier to read than the fine markings on the original cross slide. I established where zero degrees was, scribed a line and glued the insert in with Araldite.

The top and bottom faces are surface ground and the finish is very nice. I like having a flat surface to set my tool height-setting gauge on.

I already have the Hercus milling attachment, but I can see some uses for a milling vice mounted on the cross-slide (e.g. cutting stuff with a slitting saw). Which reminds me- I need to find my copy of "Milling On The Lathe".

If anyone has any questions, fire away or PM me. I'm happy to provide more detailed pics too.

    Chris

I made an adaptor plate out of 100x16mm flat bar. It allows me to mount the milling attachment in a more sensible place on the cross-slide.

I have no idea why the forum insists on rotating my photographs. I've asked the question a few times before but never got an answer. Is there a fix for this mods?

If you want an answer from the Mods it is best to send a message direct. They may not read your post. Send a pm to Grahame Collind or BobL.

I don't recall ever having a photo posted in anyway except the way I intended. Maybe something you are doing. How do you upload them?

    Hi Dean,
I upload them via the "Manage Attachments" button. That opens a File Upload manager. I click on the "Add Files" button. That opens another box where I click on the "Select Files" button. I browse to the photo, select it and click on the "Upload Files" button. That uploads the photo and I select "Done". At that point the picture is often rotated 90 degrees.

Anyway, I found another use for the slotted cross slide today. I clamped a vice to it and cut some square stock with a slitting saw. It's a lot slower than a bandsaw, but i don't own a bandsaw! Nicer cut than a hacksaw.

Hi Jack, I've often cut small rectangular stuff like that with my little Unimat 3. Does give a nice finish.

Ok. I generally do them with the "Insert Image" icon above the text window, but I also use the "Manage Attachments" button at times. At one time you could upload multiple photos with it, but not any more. As I said, I have never had a photo oriented incorrectly. Have you rotated these photos before uploading, to find them back where they started or are they just randomly turned around?

I don't have any interest in Hercus Lathes as I have never owned one. Since I have started using the "New Posts" link, I have been looking at more threads from the entire forum.

Pretty much depends on when the run is started, unfortuneately cost don't stay fixed, no matter how much we may wish they would. It's gone up 30% since I first costed it.
