the blue hatched areas are one end of a work piece, the clear areas are clamping pieces and the dark coloured areas are part of the t-slotted slide. The nut on top of the t-slot is to add extra support against bending forces for the lips of the t-slot. If you prefer, it is to spread the load accross both sides of the t-slot evenly.

Thanks for the added info.
I've got an idea now of what you're trying to achieve, even if I'm not too clear on the necessity of it.
I gather that, the farther away from the table the clamping surface is, the more potential there is for uneven loading on the T slot.
