It's a 1958 model, they made about 500 per year at that time.

Hi back again, after picking up a 1956 model in Jan I just got hold of an AR with a machine no. of 8563.F I understand it is a 1963 but the F ?? is that high speed with roller bearing countershaft ? as I read on another site. I grabbed this one as it was local, a good price and less worn than my other one.

Yes. Although it is not clear to me why it would have a serial number 8563.F

It would make more sense if it was an ARF & 8563 rather than an AR and 8563.F

Just the way they marked the high speed versions, the F always followed the number. I guess they got numbered fairly early on in the piece and wouldn't have room left for the additional letter if a high speed countershaft assembly was requested. I know from the 2000+ machines I have on my list, not many are F models.

Does your inspection certificate show the exact date of the inspection. I have been trying for years to get an updated manufacturing list by date to follow on from the 1982 list that currently exists. If we can get enough owners, from machine number 18066 onwards, to supply the date of their certificates it will at least help to some degree.

    Hi Mal,

It sure does, just realized, there must have been multiple lathes purchased for this school, this is for 19998, not 19996, close enough though. Also, my tail stock is 19995. Interesting.

    Cheers

Thats great thanks, that's one tied down by date. They wouldn't have had any before No.19995 as I had 19987-19994 at one stage, from a tafe college in South Australia.

    Thanks mirage257,
That now makes 2265 machines. That makes 19 "V" model machines on my list, all originally exported to Canada.

Hey there OK Falls, Paul here about 3 hours north of you outside Vernon. Welcome to the board! Do you know any of the dune buggy guys there, Tim or Ken, almost retired. Mine is on the left, Tim in the middle, Ken on the right. I'm sure you would have seen them around OK Falls in the last few years.

    cheers

Excellent, well keep us posted on that lathe and your work on it, or with it. I too left Coquitlam in 2003 to "get out of the city". Finally building a shop so we can work on our lathes and everything else we have wanted to do but couldn't.

    Cheers

Used the lathe a lot machining impellers for jet drives when I was rebuilding jets for my buddy at California Marine in Richmond. Only thing I couldn't do with it was, machining S/S impellers because of the high speed. I'm planning on getting a three phase motor and controller for it in the future though. I do work on friends stuff, like formula Fords and others when stuff break, lol.Used this ChinHung at Creo/Kodak for larger stuff when needed.
