that sounds ok. what part of australia are you from and do you have any other handy items to sell?
i have been thinking a more ridged tool post might be a good start.
thanks

azzrock,
You mentioned you would like a more rigid tool post. If you have access to a mill, you could possibly make one. I have some drawings for a Hercus 4 way tool post, or contact member allterrain50, he may be able to help you out.

azzrock,
Attached are some drawings of a 4-way tool post you may find of interest.
Only too happy to welcome and help a new member.

nadroj,
Well spotted, if you have details of the thick washer, I'll include it with the other drawings.
I presume it sits between the main block, and the top of the compound slide. I don't actually have my lathe up and running yet, so didn't realise it was missing.

Ken,
I have another style of Hercus Craftsman 4-Way Toolpost.
With the exception of the the underside counterbore, the Toolpost dimensions are as your drawings.
Mine has indexing cut outs on the underside of the toolpost which engage with the chisel shaped 'dog' located in the T-Nut.
The counterbore houses the spring which pushes up the toolpost and dis-engages the dog when the handle is released, allowing the tool to re positioned at another angle.
The two grub screws at each end of the T-Nut just clamp the T-Nut.
Is this a Hercus standard?
I have since found that the lathe came from a Met-Lab in Sydney and was used to make Denison test pieces, so it could have been made there.
I received some 16mm indexable insert tools with the lathe which brings the cutting edge exactly on centre height.

Hi Col,
I can't comment if your tool post is standard, I don't have any knowledge of the Hercus Craftsman lathe.
The indexable feature sounds like a good idea.
Do you have a thick washer with yours as mentioned above by nadroj?

Hello Ken,
Thanks for the reply
My toolpost does not need the large washer as it clamps directly to the compound.
