Default Trailer with onboard brake system blowing fuses

Have a trailer here with an on board brake controller.

Issue is the plug was rewired (not by me) and while it looks OK, when you apply the brakes in the towing vehicle, the trailer wheels brake momentarily, then the brake fuse in your vehicle blows.

How are electric brakes supposed to be wired up?

The controller installed is the same as this one

It should be wired up as per the manufacturers recommendations.

Not having played with that controller, I can’t comment on it, but in general with most installations and controllers, if there’s a short in the blue feed wire that powers the magnets, the system should shut down. That can be either the wire itself from the controller to the brakes, or the magnets have worn through and are shorting in the drums.
