14" vs 15" wheels - any difference
I'm in the process of building my enclosed bike/camping trailer and am looking at wheels and yes I will start a build thread soon, I will have to as I'm at the stage where I'm going to be asking questions .
The trailer is 3m long (plus nose cone) and 2m total width and I'm using a 1400kg rated springs and single axle setup and I'll be using ford steel wheels and light truck tyres.
My question: is there a difference between the load rating etc of 14 and 15" rims or in my case is it close enough not to make a difference? I just remember reading something ages ago about there being a difference.

The biggest reason for going with 15" wheels is that 14" tyres are starting to be difficult to get now..... I also believe that 15" tyres can havea greater load rating....

For a trailer that you're proposing, I'd use Toyota Hilux 2WD rims, they're the same stud pattern, but of a slightly sturdier construction, in my opinion, with light truck tyres.
KrynTo grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

I would be "steering away" (sorry it slipped out) from low profile tyres. I reckon you need that "give" in the tyre wall to help the trailer/load to carry better. Light truck tyres are definitely the way to go. When I built my 10' X 5' tandem I started off with low profile tyres on HQ rims. It didn't take long for me to go with Holden one tonner rims with light trucks, much more reliable
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod
