Bending Galv Pipe
I need to fence in my back yard to keep a large dog in. I am using NB 40 galv steel posts for the corners etc and galv star droppers for the rest. The fence will be 1800mm high. I need to get some brace bars for the posts. I could get these bent to shape or I could buy a hydraulic pipe bender and do it myself. The shape I am thinking of is a 45 deg bend at the top and bottom, copied from the local tennis courts.
What do I need to bend NB 32 galv pipe? Will one of these be good enough?

Will it do the job?.....in a word .....NO
The pipe that is offered for us to buy currently is too thin to bend using that type of bender. I have one the same and have had it for years but can't use it on new pipe. What I do is scrounge any old, even second hand pipe, usually ½" or ¾" or 1" and use it to make a bend then but weld it onto the new pipe. Tedious, yes, but you can get the desired effect
To bend the new pipe you would need a former front and back on the bender, some thing like an exhaust manufacturer would have. The pipe without the back former will just crushJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

Thanks for that info. I remember a thread about this now. I will have a look and see what I have in the way of old pipe.

Dean, one of the biggest problems is the dies, they are imperial and new pipe is metric. It mightn't be much, maybe a mill, but the dies need to be a tight fit on the pipe, so that it is supported on the top and bottom, to get around this, I've used thin sheet metal just wide enough to cover a little over half the circumference of the pipe to reform the die, so that it fits a lot better. If the strip is too wide it won't allow it to stretch into shape. If the dies were too small it wouldn't be a problem to machine them out, but not so.
You should be able to buy metric dies, from where I don't know, the other alternative is to machine some out of solid plate.
