New tandem trailer rego QLD
Hey everyone,
Could someone please explain to me or even link me to the process of having my new tandem trailer registered in Brisbane, QLD.
From what I've read, I may need a weigh bridge certificate and a RWC? Anything else that is required?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers!

was the trailer purchased new, or have you built it yourself?
either way the trailer will need a vehicle plate (Manufacturer's plate) with either your name or the manufacturer's name see: Registration - Trailer Plans

Hi Ian,
Yes, I have made the trailer myself. Thanks heaps for those links you've provided. Gives me a better understanding on what to expect when I go to register it.

two other things
1. you will need the appropriate permit to move the trailer outside your property
2. even if your tandem trailer weighs less than 750kg, because it has 2 axles, I don't think it qualifies as a "light trailer"regards from Canmore

You're too right, Ian.
A little more involved with a tandem setup but I'll get it done. Just need to find a weigh bridge around Brisbane somewhere...

In QLD you are permitted to move an unregistered trailer for the purpose of getting it registered ....... that means pretty much a direct route from your place to the weigh bridge and then to the main roads office.
A light trailer is anything under 3.5 tonnes.
Yes you will need a vin plate ....... the actual plates are not hard to get but QLD transport will tell you what numbers to put on it.
Over 750Kg you can not self assess so you will need a roadworthy certificate.
You will need a weigh bridge certificate
you will need to present the trailer to the department of transport, with the documents so they can measure it and confirm that it is so.
Ring the department of transport and they will confirm what I have said.
Because the trailer has not previously been registered it may be hard to get a permit to move it appart from the day you visit the department of transport ....... it's probably easier and cheaper to put it on a tilt tray.

Thanks heaps for the clarification, soundman. I'm just looking for a weigh bridge now that is close by to me. I'm in Northside Brisbane, in the Eatons Hill region.
With these measurements you speak of, do DOT just measure overall dimensions of the trailer or something to do with placement of axles etc. I remember reading a document which stated certain required measurements but can't seem to find it anymore. If anyone knows of the one I'm talking about, please link me to it.
Cheers

every tip and major gravel yard has a weigh bridge ....... many of them are certified and will provide a certificate for a fee.
The dimensions including axle location are required
