    Default gas struts

can anyone out there advise me on what size gas struts i need to lift a lid that is 1200 X 1800 mm, (mild steel , 1.6 mm) with a 60 kg roof top tent on the lid, the lid is hinged at the front of the trailer and will lift from the rear (1200 side) i need it to lift about 500 mm, no more. the roof top tent is on the hinged end. i need to know the newtons and where would i position them. ive tried formulas and bathroom scales under the lid, but if anyone can say .... hey this is what you need and explain why then that would be much easier.

    thanks.

i can post a pic of the trailer if need be.

I found this link to be very helpful when I wanted to buy gas struts to fit on the engine box cover on a boat.

How to work out which strut I need
