Hi, What sort of trailer are you thinking of making? There are a few questions that need to be asked before planning. What weight do you plan on putting in it?
What are you planning on carrying? Are you wanting the sides folded? Do you want an RHS chassis or angle? Drop tail gates Front & Rear? Do want a tipping trailer, to impress those at the dump shovelling their rubbish out?
As far as I know, no plans exist for trailers on the net, but I can draw some up for you, if you'd like. Just need the answers to the questions above.

500kg weight limit should be ok. I think that is about the max isn't it for single axle?
As for what i'm carrying, just general items really. Sometimes machinery, dirt, logs. etc.
RHS chassis would be convenient, as I have some 40 x 40 x 3mm available at the moment. Which is better? Angle or RHS?
Drop tail gates front and rear could be handy at times when carrying longer items.
Never thought about tipping before, but again would be a handy feature to have
With the sides, I could possibly do a fold top and bottom, would help with strength I would think.
Thanks

Even a removable cage would be a good thing to have.

Not so much in the way of plans, but the basic idea is to start with a 6 x 4 chassis, add some channels, some custom touches and away you go.
In a little more detail, start with a couple of lengths of 40mm sq RHS, cut the following lengths;
2 x 1830mm (side chassis rails)
1 x 1675mm (front cross rail)
3 x 1140mm (centre cross rails)
then I use a piece of 75 x 50mm RHS for the Rear cross rail. Lay it all out square, tack, check measurement, and weld.
Two more lengths of 75 x 50 for the drawbar, and there's your basic frame.
Or I could build you one...
Actually, are you looking to build a standard M/bike trailer or a fully enclosed?

No, not a motorbike trailer or fully enclosed. Just a normal trailer with removable cage and possibly tipping.
What thickness is required for the drawbar?

Hi, The idea of putting up the links were to give you ideas, the motor bike chassis is the same as a normal trailer.
For the drawbar 2.5 or 3 mm thick would be more than adequate.
750 Kg is the maximum gross weight before brakes are required. Go for 750 KG springs, better to go bigger than always overloaded
Folded sides don't make the trailer sides any stronger, just looks a lot neater.
To make a gate to go around the trailer, use 50 X 50 X 3 angle to sit over the sides of the trailer, 40 X 40 X 2 RHS for the uprights and across the top also for the centre rail. Weld mesh welded on the side (outside or inside doesn't matter) is ideal for carrying rubbish. 50 X 50 mesh is ideal, if you are planning on lots of trips to the tip, make a lid out of mesh also, a bit more cost involved, but a lot cheaper than a littering fine. Make all the sides as separate panels, easier to fit by yourself. Pins in pipe on the corners, make it easier to assemble/disassemble and for hinge pins
To make the tipper, finish the bottom trailer just behind the spring hanger. You''ll need to make the pivot point at this point. The top section will sit on top of all this, to lock all this in place, I've seen several different locking arrangements, from bolts that screw down the top section to over centre catches. To set the tipper action working, standing on the rear should be enough to get it tipping, remember to lock it down before leaving. If you have anymore questions, please ask.
Don't forget WIP pictures.

Just stumbled apon this thread. I'm looking to build a 6x4 trailer for serious offroad use. It's build strength and material sizing will reflect it's intended use, although I want to keep it light wherever possible. I have a fair idea of the design as I have been working on it for nearly a year but I did buy some trailer plans from ebay as a reference.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TRAILER-P...item46412d8cf1
I'm making the floor out of 2mm zinc plate, sides will be 1.6 zince plate. The chassis will be 75x50 and the drawbar will be 100x50mm. It will be rated to 1200Kg and have electric brakes but I will likely never see it any heavier than maybe 750Kg. The brakes are more for off-roadability and of course to satisfy the requirements for compliance.
I was hoping to not weld the panels and just countersink screw them in order to not damage the zinc coating but I have since been advised to just weld and cold gal the welds.
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Hi Simon,
How are you finding those eBay plans? Are they worth it?
Thinking of purchasing them some day as looks like it would make the job easier. You have the cut list and all measurements ready to go, just need to buy some steel
Thanks

I made my tandem trailer from those plans and it made the job a lot easier.
(My trailer appears in their video.)
When I ordered the steel I had the steel merchant do all the cutting. All I had to do was stick it all together.
I made a few modifications and continue to modify it as new needs arise.
It has a reversible electric which. In it's usual position it's used fro loading cars. Reversed it's used for pulling the trailer into it's parking spot.
A few years ago I modified it to tilt to ease loading of a very load race car. The tilt mechanism is powered by an electric scissor jack.
