Default RULES for building on top of a TRAILER?

    My brother is a nut.

We've spent years daring each other to do stupid things.

Like opening the side of and old caravan to use as band stand.

NOW we've thought up a GYPSY type tiny house to sit onto of a 6x4 trailer.

Does any one understand the rules on adding onto trailers.

    It is registered.

Imagine a large out door dunny on wheels?

    How strict are VIC ROADS?.

We would like to construct out of recycled timber.

UNderstand the 750 kg restriction, bu are there other RULES?

    Will post photos when complete.

If you search for 'Teardrop Caravans' then I think you'll be heading in the right direction. Try this website: Aussie Teardrop Campers and contact the owners.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question specifically.

Can't see any reason as to why not. I've seen a lot of unusual things built on trailers, saw benches, enclosed boxes, a couple of camper units similar to your caravan.

I can't think of any reason why you would get hassled by Vicroads or the Police unless it was unsafe, as there are plenty of trailers out there that have "add-on's"... A tradesman's trailer is just a box trailer with a top, as is a camper trailer. If it's going to be something that can be slept in, then you might have to closely look at the section in the VSB1 regarding "Caravans" and their requirements for door placement, and a Fire Extinguisher.
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!
