opinions on small trailer wheels
Can I get some opinions of these little alloy wheels with integrated hubs? I'm looking at using this trailer as the basis for a teardrop camper and am wondering if these wheels are up to the job. I think I'll have to replace the axle with a wider one and am sort of tempted to go with new axle, hubs, U-bolts and bearings all in one hit. Still, if these are OK I'll go with them. The small diameter will keep the overall profile of the trailer low.
Thanks.

They have their place, but there are "low-speed" versions and "high speed" versions, the latter running a Holden 'LM' bearing set. They come in 8" & 10" however, for their extra carrying capacity, I'd go the 10".
Two drawbacks to be made aware of. One, the overall diameter of the wheels mean that at 100km/h, the bearings are spinning nearly twice as fast as they would on a 14" or 15" wheel & tyre. Second, consider this...
...on the side of the road, in the rain, having to dismantle the bearings to change a flat tyre.
You can get those alloy wheels in a 10" diameter with a HT stud patternToo many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? Why not? click here to register. I would be careful about 10" wheels , refer post IE rotations >
I would be more inclined to fit 13" ht (I think they are) wheels with standard bearings, and you should not have any issues.

Good luck finding a good set of S/hand 13" Holden (FE to EJ) as most are being snapped up by car enthusiasts, and most tyre places don't keep 13" tyres anymore either, and have to buy them in. You can buy them new, but as Aerohydro has already indicated, 13's will dramatically raise the trailer several inches.
As I said, the smaller range of trailer wheels have their place, but bearing maintenance is required more often.Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member?
