Default Transtig 180 issues, HELP PLEASE!!!!

Hi guys, im new to this forum
A mate and i are both motorsport fabricators and both purchased second hand (ex army) miller 180amp ac/dc tig welders.
The Welders are branded as a cigweld transtig over here but are miller welders on the inside, they are of 2/1982 and 10/1982 vintage on id tags.
The problem we are having with both of them is that they work perfect on DC however on AC the high frequency seems to be weak, we have surfaced and gapped the points wired them for 3 phase 415V (can also be wired for single phase 240V over here) and still no joy. We already have and use a going miller 180 ac/dc tig of same vintage and have swaped some parts betwwen them but still no joy. We are yet to swap out the HF transformer as one is 3 wire and ours are 4 wire transformers.
If anyone has any suggestions or send me towards where i could find tech manuals for these machines it would be great. I dont know what the machine is called over in the US so i cant download manual of the website.
Serial numbers and type numbers are as follows:

    TIG 1: s/n: 8204033
    type number: 70005

    TIG 2: s/n: 8209008
    type number: 70005

Thanks guys any help is greatly appreciated as to help and where to get some parts from.
    Travis

    Default Transtig Welders

HI Travis (trav-ke55), I had a Cig Transtig 180 ac/dc Welder that I bought of Ebay. It kept blowing fuses as soon as it was plugged in to power. I ended up Selling it on Ebay for a lot less to a Guy who had a Mate who is a Welder Repairer (lucky bugger I thought). A Manual, Yes I still have a Copy of the Manual for Mine that I had. The Manual though has 1974 on it, and it did match My Welder. The Research I done indicated that the Transtigs are the same as the Murex Tradestig in the US. www.murexwelding.com.uk As You can see the site is UK though so I am a bit confused. They have Manuals on their site that you can Download.
For interest My manual says the Spark Gap is Factory set at .003in to .004in. Any Welder Repair Shop should be able to help You out with parts or even CIG/BOC. One Welder Repairer I spoke to said keep it away from Auto Electricians. Check out the Tokentools site the Owner of the Business fixed up a Cig transtig 180 ac/dc , perhaps he might know where to get parts.
Sorry I have probably not been much help. Good Luck with Your Welder and Welcome to the Forum.

Hi Guys , Welcome to the wonderful world of welding.
Your issue with the AC side of your welder please note that the hi frequency useage will lower the available amps avail and a 180 Amp machine will be more like a 130 amp unit ,to weld 6mm alum using hi frequency a 250 amp machine would be best , Hope this helps , all the best.
