Default Printing out an Arc-Welding Tutorial...

    Happy New Year Gents!

I'm not quite sweating to death fast enough up here at the moment (Brisbanites will appreciate the "thick" sarcasm of this statement...), so I've decided to raise the temperature a little more at my place by having a stab at some Arc Welding... (it would be impossible to raise the humidity any more - that's for sure!)

Now, while this query may well belong down in the "Computers" sub-forum, I wouldn't be surprised at all however if one of you "Gun-Welders" might have already blazed the trail for me with this particular problem...

What I'm wanting to do is print out the excellent online Tutorial at http://www.aussieweld.com.au/arcwelding/, but I keep losing the right-hand side of the right-hand column of text from Page 2 onwards. The Google Ad-Column down the left hand side of each page seems to be the culprit. It drops off when I save and print Page 1, which might have something to do with the fact that the text on Page 1 is in a single column format, whereas the following pages are all double-column. Furthermore, there are no "Printer Friendly" versions of each page available, and my "Print - Options" window is not allowing me to isolate the main frame of each page for printing purposes, either.

Please don't go spending any more than 1 minute on this one. If there's no quick answers, don't waste your time with it, because I can re-post it down at "Computers".

    Many Thanks all the same,
    Batpig.

It took me a minute to read the post, Batpig, so I'm out of here. Isn't it HOT in Brisbane though. I'm putting a new tray on my truck and can only go for half an hour before heading for the AC. Let us know how you go with the welding. I'm using a little inverter and it's brilliant.

Batpig, I am not helping you here by writing that I brought up Page 3, I think it was, clicked on Edit, then Select All and all the text was selected.

I did not print but have no reason to believe all would not be well.

I am not far off being computer-illiterate so cannot help further but hope this encourges you.

    Dear Gentlemen,

Thank-you for replying - I might have just stumbled upon the answer even as we speak (well, "type" I guess...). Old Farmer - spurred on by your suggestion, I selected the relevant text and pictures (not by "Edit/Select All", but by clicking and dragging across the whole of the main frame only, so as to exclude the Google Ads), and then when I hit "File/Print", I "checked" the "Selection" box (instead of leaving it on the default "All" box - which is what I was doing yesterday...) The left margin of the printout needs a little bit of increasing, but both columns of text (and no ads!) are now there. So basically, "Problem Solvered"...

Ross - I've just got the little GMC Arc unit, which I picked up directly from them as part of a bundle I got off them a couple of months ago when I had to come up with an order large enough to cajole them into sending me one of their little 5" handheld Wet Saws. I haven't been able to put it through it's paces yet, because I'm wanting to get the $99 Cigweld Auto-Helmet from Total Tools, but they (Total Tools over at Northgate) seem to be taking the whole week off (Smart move, really. Can't blame them...) My brother was saying to me at the time to have a think about an Inverter, but I had to do something quickly, because I needed the Wet Saw very quickly. The little Arc-unit runs off 10A and is made in Woggaly, so I thought it was a fairly safe proposition. I'll no doubt be back down here in the future with more questions now that I have the ability to ruin some metal things...

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

    Dear Wheelin',

That is an excellent link, and the Haynes Welding Manual certainly looks the goods...

As fate would have it, I've discovered another problem with the printouts since my last post, in so far as they're printing out in a sort of "Tractor" form where you have to glue a couple of pages together at the tops and bottoms in order to get the columns of text to continue correctly.

But as fate would further have it, the truly excellent Vernonv might well be able to provide a solution for me (What a Champ! ). I'm probably lucky that everything's closed at the moment, and blokes like him are therefore sitting near their computers instead of going out and doing some work!

I will certainly hang on to that link, though.

    Best Wishes Wheelin',
    Batpig.

BatPig, if you are still after a copy of this, I went through the whole cut/paste/format thing with this website a few months ago and have it saved as a word doc, let me know if you (or anyone else) wants it and i'll put it up onto a website for download. Its been a valuable source of reading.

I only just joined and saw this thread, hence the delayed post.

    Dear Matt,

Thanks very much for the offer, but the truly excellent VernonV came through with a PDF of the tutorial for me back when the thread was first going. Very kind of you all the same...

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

    Batpig,

Have you tried high lighting all the info. Then clicking on your print icon at top of you page.

Then when box comes up select the check box that reads "selection". It is under the heading print range.

    That is in firefox.

I certainly did try all manner of that type of thing at the time, but the darn thing well and truly had me stumped. All's well now though.

    Thanks all the same!
