Oxy /LPG is quite OK for brazing copper pipe fittings , fuel tanks , ,fuse brazing brass ,,and brazing stainless with expensive special rods.Thats all I've done but it should be fine for silver-soldering teeth on a saw blade.

Thanks for that, Mat. I've got just a poofteenth of acetylene left after doing the last lot of tips, so the next ones will be done with oxy/lpg. I'll let everyone know how they go.
Cheers,

I was about to start a new thread as I was getting no response to this one
//metalworkforums.com/f160/t201...egulator-inlet
but it looks to me that the answer could be here in this thread?
Mathuranatha are you saying you used the Acetylene regulator and 'adapted' it by using a part from your caravan LPG bottle connection? That would seem to solve my problem but is it a valid thing to do?
Actually I just noticed how old this thread is!
Any chance someone can point me to the LPG regulator that was purchased on Ebay by the original poster?

But perhaps the answer is here in this one (actually it is a VERY old thread!)
Mathuranatha are you saying that you converted your Acetylene regulator using the caravan LPG bottle regulator? Is that a reasonable / ‘legal’ thing to do?
Can someone point me to the LPG regulator that the original poster mentioned that he bought off of Ebay?
Cheers

Yes Elecmuso replaced the adapter with one from an LPg regulator . Legal - who knows lawers always disagree on everything - thats how they make their money )

Hi Guys,
I am not seeking to play the safety nanny here, but there really dangerous things sometimes attempted by well-meaning amateurs that don't end well at all.
An example is the guy that plumbed his acetylene gas sytem with a piece of copper pipe. The following is not that specific incident but just serves to provide you with an idea of what a lack of knowledge could result in.

As grown adults in the privacy of you own shed things that you do are nobody's business - until it goes bang.
Please check with appropriate sources before you venture into unknown territory especially electrical or gasfitting.
We need all of our Metalwork Forum members and can't afford to lose anybody.
Take care and work safely.

It boggles the mind to think that even a research laboratory, probably full of chemists, didn't identify the danger of mixing acetylene with copper pipe/silver soldered joints.
What happen to the other guy, did he blow himself to kingdom come?

No, he didn't, someone who had been trained in gasfitting picked up this bit of DIY work, in the nick of time.
Its a story from years back when a friend worked in CIG and came across this work.
Because the DIY plumber erroneously believed some of the oxy acetylene fittings were made of copper -they are NOT - its an alloy) the bloke thought it was Ok to plumb a manifold in copper.
My friend said though the work was of good quality, the choice of materials was disastrous.
