MIG Wire (what brand do you use?)
I have a little 120A WIA gasless welder and am due to replace the wire role. I have been looking at all the available brands out there and I can't decide what to buy.
I am running .9mm wire & tips at the moment and have a good sized job comming up soon extending about 28 posts with wall thickness around 1.6mm.
So here's a chance to let me and everybody else out there know what experiences you've had with different brand wires. I know I only have gasless but others might find it useful if any and all types of wires were discussed..
Lastly sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I had a bit of a look and couldn't really find what I was after.
Cheers

I run 0.6mm wire and the original spool of wire that came with my welder was really good and never had any troubles with it (it's a Kemppi welder, but I don't know what brand the wire was).
When that spool ran out I got a BOC spool and I don't think it performs quite as well as the unknown one. The problem I have is with the ease at which it seems to want to kink - it doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be frustrating (and yes I've cleaned and/or replaced everything associated with the wire feed to try and fix the problem).
Having said that though, that is the only downside I have found with the BOC wire and the 0.9mm wire should be less susceptible to kinking than the 0.6mm.Cheers.
Vernon.

CIG Weld is too expensive. I got a roll 4 times as long from a place in Greens Rd Dandenong for the same price as the CIG Weld. It seems to be good wire.

Yes, that was the place. I didn't buy a 15kg, so don't know the price of them. Worth giving them a call though. I found it worth the trip from the inner city .

What welding wire to buy and use?
What welding wire to buy and use?
Have a look at my website, click on the mig welding wire tab on the left hand side.
I have written an article about that. What to look for when purchasing a quality mig wire.

I have never had a problem with CIG gasless wire. Have had issues with cheaper brands.

I have a saying. "Those who buy on price and price only. Get what they pay for."
There is a lot of rubbish wire out there these days. Finding a good one is hard. One of the biggest problems is that many brands of wire are not actualy made buy the name that is on the box.
ie. is BOC or WIA the manufacturer of that wire? or do they just get it from a manufacturer in china, italy hungary etc etc.
