My welder doesn't...
Before I had read any of the comments about machine selection, I bought myself a "Rossi p200iS multi function - ac/dc tig, pulse, mma, plus plasma cutter.
Its been fine for 2 years, although really not used a lot.
Fired it up boxing day, all the lights are on but there are no electrons at home, at least none interested in making the trek down to the hand piece and back via the work lead.
I get a hf pilot arc using tig, but no welding voltage.
Yes I checked for a good earth.
Can any learned forum members provide any guidance?
I'd rather attempt a repair before replacing as the budget has been stretched by other domestic projects recently..
(and I just sold my arc welder because I didn't need it....)

Any of the other functions working? Plasma Cutter, MMA?
I'd be taking off the cover and having a look inside, one of the connectors may have come undone, there are lots in these types of machines.

Mma does not arc, that's what I was trying to do in fact.
I then tried tig as I have used tig mainly, not used arc before.
That will be my first avenue, open up, inspect and replug everything.

Does gas solenoid fire in TIG mode (clicking noise)?
Do you have any OCV on the MMAW circuit?
Be careful opening these inverter machines up, they have banks of capacitors in them that will give a nice 'little' jolt if not discharged.

...otherwise save up your pennies and possibly your life and get it looked at by a rossi repair agent. You'd probably be up for freight costs, and about 100 clams per hour plus parts.

Gas flows, pre and post, ramp up and down seem fine. Haven't tried measuring ocv on any mode yet but will do. Suspect will be 0 as well there is absolutely no evidence of arc.
Waiting for supplier to advise on options....

Hi Russ,
Please leave the electrical work to the people licensed to do it.
It is illegal to do your own electrical work on mains powered equipment.
Here is a reference for us all.
https://www.renovateforum.com/f195/e...icensed-74437/
OK! It imay be seven years old and from another forum, but you all get the picture.
Seven years on, the Electrical regulations/ legislation will have been toughened up, not made any easier.
If you wish to differ you should first contact the electrical safety board in your own state and /or provide the relevant part of the act from their state to show us where it says it is quite ok to do your own electrical work.
State legislations are pretty much the all same these days and I am quite confident none shall be forth coming.
The administration cannot condone actions which are illegal and as a forum moderator, I must say so.
Have a SAFE and happy New Year
Grahame

Although I admit there is a need for regulation, in seeing many a dodgy electrical work or repair job done in my life time I have been amazed at how many of these were done by Licensed Electricians be they on homes, industrial, machines or even vehicles of all sorts.
I have seen far more professional work produced by DIY or tradies from other trades.
Proof is there for all to see as in the bush fires started by overhead mains, house fires started by poor wiring instalations. Electric shock cased by poor grounding in machines. Take a look at the common house hold iron which is so poorley designed by engineers and the lack of insulation around electrics. 4 irons on 2 years 3 were top of the range Sunbeam.
The washing machines which have caught fire! The phone & laptop chargers exploding or igniting.
The vast posts on this and other forums regarding new items and electrical problems.
Now this law change has vast serious repercussions for us all who have, use, restore, work on any electrical item anywhere no matter who you might be or experience. In the most stupid of thoughts consider fitting an TV antenna which carries current.

I would be looking at the board for obvious problems like burnt components, bad connections and bad traces.
It is most likely going to be a board based problem.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

In SA and for building works where one needs an appropriate license one does not have to pay anyone who is not correctly licensed, ie builders, ducted airconditioning installations/alterations, any electrical trades..ie domestic commercial installs/aircon electrical repairs, plumbing..the list goes on..but at last look it does not include floor coverings.
They cannot take you to court and get their monies
HOWEVER, While some are very capable of carrying out electrical works and possibly better than some local sparkies, just remember, you are taking a risk to do so...ie insurance problems and risk of manslaughter or worse charges...electrical can and does kill.
