What are you wanting welded ?

Will be chasing a different grade of aluminium welder depending on the job. Is it a simple one that any hack with a AC/DC Tig could weld up or is it something critical ?

    Ken.
You may find difficulty finding someone to take the job on as repair jobs like this can be very hard to charge for, (they can easily eat hours due to welding difficulties caused by contamination, parent material type or cracking upon cooling). Having said that it shouldn't be impossible. I would suggest that you ask yourself what the consequences are should the component fail in service. If it is simply a guard or cover, then little of a negative nature may occur, but if it is a structural component, you may be in the firing line. Aluminium forgings do not repair overly well however and their strength is much less than original.
The replacement piece being of different type shouldn't present too many difficulties and any reasonably competent welder should be able to effect the repair.
