Default Manual wanted for toolex 110 dual purpose

A mate has a Toolex 110 Dual Purpose Mig Welder.
It is second hand but doesn't really show any signs of wear and tare on the case.
It's gasless but has provision for gas. The controls at the front don't really make sense to me hense needing a manual. Google was no help. So if anyone has some idea I would be grateful for the information
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Hi Rod,

People were chasing a manual for this unit, as far back as 2006 on the Woodwork side-without a result.

If nobody can come up with a manual, what about posting a good clear pic of the front of the case?

I am sure that between all of us, we can work out how the controls function.

    Default Pictures of the Welder

Grahame, here some photos as you suggested. A label says that it has a 25% duty cycle @ 50 amps so its a real "power house". How can you tell what type of wire is on the spool? From what I have heard using gas is a lot better than gasless.

    Hi Rod
Its a fairly simple set up. In fact, it is as simple as it can possibly get. Don't expect a lot and you won't be greatly disappointed.

The knob on the left is the wire speed- It varies the wire speed and the amperage.

The row of buttons, 3 white and 1 black will be the set voltages which tap off the transformer windings.
I can see 6 different tap settings available.

They run with the black hi /low button and the 3 white button. This set up serves to provide, 6 only different tap voltages running from low to hi. It is old-fashioned and cheap.

No idea of the voltage rating for each tap setting is- guesswork I suppose.

The rusty flux core will cause nothing but grief for you if you run it as is, through the mig gun cable liner. It will cause slipping on the drive wheels and possibly birds nesting.

If you are on a budget run out 20 meters of wire - under tension- and clean it up with a steel wool. By under tension, I mean lock up the knob in the centre of the spool until it is tight. Tie the other end of the FC wire off and scrub it with steel wool and WD 40 between thumb and fingers. If it works you can clean the whole spool up later.

Any rusty wire that is fed through the gun liner just sheds the rust into the liner. A method of cleaning the liner can be to soak it in kero and hit it with a compressed air line, followed by soaking it in metho and once again with the air line . If coiled up to fit in a 20 drum this saves on kero and metho as you only need a small amount of each to swish around.

If the liner is not plastic coated it works ok.The liner should look like mums old cafe curtain wire with a brass nut or ferrule on one end.I once made a liner out of this stuff when I had no availability of the spare part. If the liner is all plastic I DON'T THINK IT WILL CLEAN UP TOO WELL.
Run the liner through your fingers to check for kinks or flats.

I would try the flux core wire (gasless) first. Its your call of course, but do you want to spend on a cylinder of gas and a regulator, just yet? Personally, I would clean it up and flog it off as I don't think it is cost efective to pursue it. At best it would only weld 3 to 6mm, if that.

    What does everyone else think?

Thanks Grahame for the directions and the frank opinion. When the mate dropped it off I wasn't going to put too much time on it but thought I would have a little play and see if it would weld car body sheet metal (Jeep Project....some day) at least.

    Rod,
Sorry to seem so negative but that flux core might be a trap for welding vehicle sheet metal. The flux (the stuff inside the tubular wire) is acidic. At least the old stuff was,I can't speak for current day flux core wire.

A few people found out the hard way a few years back. They welded the panels and were dismayed by the corrosion breaking out along the weld line. Tiny amounts of flux reacted under the paint and spoiled the work.

I had the exact clone except is was a SIP. What gave it away was the spring that tensions the drive wheel. Its identical. The voltage jump from step to step will drive you nuts. For panel welding the adjustments need to be closer together than what is possible on this machine.

I would hold out for a machine that has lowest to highest adjustable volatge.IF you spot an old Cigweld Transmig 195 grab it.They are the one to have . A Transmig Rural Pack ,even better.

Thanks Grahame, experience is certainly the guide here. I have a Toolex 140 Amp stick welder. The outside case on it and the 110 Mig are the same colour and nearly the same size. When I bought the stick welder the salesman told me it came out of the SIP factory under the name of Toolex. It is heavy so it has copper fields. I have been really happy with its performance over the 10 or more years I have had it.
I might take your advice and look for the CIG welder.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod
