BOC Under $1000 Pulse MIG! Ohh Lala...
I went into Boc today to purchase a new mig welder and i was checking out there new mig welder i think it is the 181 and i noticed the pulse setting i came so close to buying it but i held back it has one set back no screen to read that i could see so unsure how one would go about setting the settings
maybe its just the demo model is a blank?
a pulse mig under $1000 i never heard of when i last looked at pulse migs they were $2000, $3000, Looks like BOC is breaking new grounds on budget machines
i was than going to buy a older ECA brand or something like that but chose to keep my ESAB 150 with spool gun

I don't know too much about it but a mig welder with pulse is a high end feature untill now, maybe someone with good experience can chime in

If you understand dip transfer and spray transfer modes on a basic mig ,the pulsed mode is a superimposed wave form that occurs somewhere in the middle of the above two modes.
The deposition happens during the pulse phase which is variable by time and height. The pulse allows fine control over deposition rate.
That's if if remembered it properly and have not forgotten something which can happen these days.

Pretty well nailed it Grahame. Basically pulse mig has the ability to deposit individual metal droplets. What this means is that the lower limits of a mig's availabilities are extended. 2 or 3mm outside corner joints are quite easily undertaken in aluminium with 1.2mm wire which is about the smallest wire that feeds well for aluminium. .9mm is available, but cantankerous as hell to feed well. It also means that greater control is available out of position leading to more controlled heat input, greater speed and efficiency.
Greatest benefits come with aluminium or stainless but steel welding still does benefit somewhat.
The only problem I see is the BOC label. In my opinion manure was created and BOC put a wire feeder on it. BOC are equivalent to Ebay welders in quality and backup, yet are typically sold at a price point above their quality level.
$1000 for a mig is pretty low, let alone a pulse mig. Something will definitely have been compromised along the way.

This is the beastie I think. https://www.boc.com.au/wcsstore/AU_B...ss%20PULSE.pdf
Very little information and does not list on the current BOC website. Must have been out for a while though as Cash Converters have sold one as well as one that listed on Gumtree according to Google. Either on the market for a while or a new machine that is a complete dog and people are offloading them.
Based on the specs, I wouldn't touch one as 25% @ 180A is a real lightweight, particularly for a pulse machine as they spend a fair amount of time in the upper range. There is a 15 second clip on youtube, but you would learn more staring into your beer quite frankly. I looked to try and find an operating manual, but no luck there either.
I guess BOC don't want to sell them that badly and they're keeping them well hidden.

Karl that machine you just linked to would be worth a whole lot more than $1000. I reckon i'd buy a few If I could get them at that price. Looks like a handly little machine!

It is probably this machine I would say https://www.boc.com.au/shop/en/au/bo...-boc180multi-p
No idea what it would be like, I would wan't to try it before I bought it I would think.
I've used pulse machines for over 10 years now for aluminium, stainless and mild steel. But these are in the $10000 range so they have to be good.

Given our mate Gazza mentioned 181, I'd say it's this one here:
https://www.boc.com.au/shop/en/au/bo...er-boc181mig-p
Which has a "Pulse Al" mode, implying that the pulse feature is somehow specific to aluminium.

It might be a good machine for welding thinner sections. Remember aluminium acts like a heat sink no you need a lot more amps compared to mild steel/stainless. I was welding 5mm sheet at 200 amps.
Still I wouldn't buy it without trying it out. Would also probably go the multi for a little bit extra $$$ same weight but with arc and tig as well.
