I know a lot of people use nozzle dip, but I do question the necessity of it's use. In over 25 years in the trade, I have yet to find a circumstance where it has given much benefit and several where it has had a negative effect. I definitely would not use it for critical work as it is another possible source of contamination. From my experience, I have found that the single most important factor in avoiding spatter build up is welder set up, followed closely by regular cleaning of your nozzle when required. once a nozzle has been badly damaged by spatter and the resultant arcing out, it then acts as a magnet for every globule and these stick like the proverbial.
If welding a lot of galvanised is on the cards, then a can of the cheapest cooking oil spray is my weapon of choice.
I have the same jar of dip that I bought 25 years ago and I would estimate that maybe 5% has been used if that tells you anything.
If dipping is your thing, then carry on, but there are other effective ways to manage spatter.
