    Default WW2 welder

More junk, I mean treasure . I picked up this WW2 era welder very cheap , not far from here . HOBART 300amp DC welder. These were used by US army and navy and are rare here in Aust. . The Dodge 6 motor turns over and the commutatror looks OK . It has the Allied Works Council mark on it , I think it was used on the North South road and in Darwin. The pic is from a manual. The one I have has a draw bar and axle added on, its towable which is handy

Nice piece of treasure, should go well behind the Morris, as it's of the same era. What sort of condition is it in????

It needs a clean up, the main thing is, it's all there including the original speed governor . Somebody has fitted a Holden Stromberg carby , the engine may have stuck valves from years of sitting, a common thing with the Dodge 6 engines . The long fuel tank sits on top and is slightly dome shaped . I would really like a manual for it. The Voltage/amps output is variable up to 40V@300 amps . I got it from a friend who is moving to a smaller sized property , he built large sheds with it and other stuff.

There is a Military Vehicle group in Armidale who have a mobile kitchen from the war. This thing is a 4 wheeled caravan sporting a BIG cast iron wood stove heating the ovens as well as generating steam/hot water. After the war it was "surplus", so was asked to be taken back to Sydney but....somebody "forgot it" so the local council stored it for many years until it donated to this Military Vehicle crowd. They dig it out a few times a year. The make very good Anzac Busuits
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

That would be a Wiles cooker, made in South Aust. . There was also a 2 wheeled version made after the war .

It might pay to put a post up on the American based weldingweb.com forum and see what you can dig up. There seems to be quite a few old engine drive welders still in regular use and still more being discovered in granpappy's barn. Lot's of knowledge on that forum, just block your ears when they start paying homage to their beloved 6010 cellulose electrodes
