Couldn't agree more Karl. I remember seeing one of ChuckE's videos ages ago and thinking how bad it was. Then I saw one the other day and the guy's been given some pretty good gear on sponsorship (can't remember what now). It doesn't do the suppliers any favours at all having such a moron "reviewing' their gear.
In contrast, I still watch everyone of Jody's videos, even though I would rather he just did more of each job that came through his shop, than some of his latest format.
Cheers

He looks to be an OK enough welder, but a fairly ordinary designer/fabricator. And as with many yank Youtubers, has an incredibly thin skin, so when people kept on pointing out the stupid/poor/incorrect things he'd done in the comments, he decided to disable comments on his videos altogether. So while channels like Weld.com might not be gods of welding, at least they allow comments where people can point out faults and discuss them.
As for sponsorship, I'm not sure how sustainable his approach is - he was plugging Everlast way back, and now never mentions them. I think he's pushing HTP now, and Hypertherm look to have sent him the odd unit, but I suspect on loan only. I don't bother watching many of his videos any more, although I do make a point of clicking thumbs down on any video he posts with comments disabled.

Agreed. You've got the settings in the ballpark now, now you're down to a little tweaking and more practice. One of the biggest factors in TIG, not only practice but being IN practice. I had cause to weld a few bits of exhaust this weekend, mild steel 1.6mm wall - and was reminded just how long its been since I actually ran the TIG. Think I need to might burn a few rods every now and then on various practice pieces just to keep my hand/eye coordination up to scratch - I welded a lot nicer when I was regularly doing a lot of fab work with it...

Looking at the job, it appears something suited to spot welding. Fortunate here, there's one a few doors up I can access, have you anyone you could throw a few beers at down there to let you loose on a machine?
I'd expect that might be an exercise in frustration if not on your game 100%. There's an ex-Sellafield colleague who would have no difficulties, but he was the best I ever saw - probably make most of the others I've known to think twice just from potential distortion.

I have a spot welder and could do this easily on it (although I'd still have to strip the coating from the sheet), but because this box will potentially be going into food production areas I wanted something with minimal external cracks/ crevices so it could be wiped down.
As far as distortion goes, the only thing that the welding has induced is that the base sheet now oil cans a little. Everything else is still where it should be.

Making progress and two D cylinders of argon later, things are improving.
This probably my best weld yet -

The previous material went rusty on me (as stainless often does...) so this is with genuine 0.7mm 304. For a size comparison, the slide is folded from 0.8mm galv.
(If only they were all that smooth)
