Welding through POR 15
Folks,
Doing a resto on an old car, there is a product called por 15 which is a paint on rust proofing, I have used it before and it's pretty good stuff, tuff as.
However, I want to paint between the two panels I am joining, as once they are closed they are closed for ever, and you cannot get back into them, but water and air does blow through the area as it's a cowl area.
i would like to por 15 the panels and then weld them together, but having never attempted to weld through the stuff, curious if anyone else has.
i have a choice of welders and have been welding for a while, so no issues there, just the lack of knowledge on the weld through
I could predrill the outer panel, and then use a razor to scrape the inner section clean, and then puddle fill the area, but this is a last resort as it would be incredibly time consuming.

One way to find out.
Get some panel steel off cuts, coat them and weld them to see what happens.
I know how much effort goes into restoring old cars, so you need to prove and be confident in your procedures.

You won't weld through it, in my experience of it. Pretty thick stuff... It is however pretty resistant to heat at close proximity.
When you say puddle fill, do you mean thinning down the POR15 and letting it run into the 'gap' between the two panels? As that would be what I'd be looking at trying, or alternatively soaking it in cavity wax....

Thanks, my thought process is por 15 all panels, predrill cover panel, and then clamp up, in the areas where my holes are,a scrape away the por15 and then weld (puddle fill) the two sheets together
