Thread: Plasma Cutter Roller guide

I have been meaning to get myself a PC roller guide for some time, and I know they are not expensive but mr cheap skates here is always on the outlook for an alternative.

A few months back the mens shed was given a heap of Oxy gear which included more than 6 standard Oxy roller guides and I asked the super if I could have one - no probs. I did not expect it would fit the PC torch straight away and preliminary measurements showed that boring it out might remove too much metal to make it viable.

This arvo I re-measured it and figured I might just be able to do it if I lightly sanded down the torch plastic surround as it was not really round and had a moulding ridge that contributed to the problem.

The roller guide fitted nicely in the Hercus 4 jaw and I was able to drill to out to 22 mm whereby I could start using my boring bar to take it out to the 28 mm needed.

There's just enough metal left on one of the original 7.0 mm holding bolt hole to run an 8mm fine thread through and use it as a location for a locking bolt.

The holder is a very snug fit on the plastic section of the torch - it has to be lightly twisted to get it on, and it is this that hold the torch central and vertical.

I turned a 45º rounded tip on the locking bolt and it sits under light pressure in the groove around the ceramic cup end.

What brand of Plasma cutter do you have ?

I have several old oxy guides that came with gear that I have purchased over the years and would like to adapt one .
