    Default wood heater

I have to get a move on and make this wood heater using brake drums. I was thinking of getting a rolled section to fit in between the 2 drums.
Could this be made out of say 300h x 50mm wide flat steel vertical slats welded so as to form the rolled section I was thinking of?

Definitely could and can be done that way. I have never made one, but I remember seeing a picture of one made like that. I just searched one the Internet and found a Picture of one using flat bar to make the middle section.Brake Drum Heater.jpg

I made one years ago and used 2 drums off super singles. With the 2 drums lip to lip it made the firebox about 500 mm high. The lid formed a hatch to drop the wood in as well as a moveable baffle to hook up the chimney. The bottom has a drawer in it to remove the ash. I used a dust band which lifted the whole thing up about 100 mm. To join the rims I just used some 100 X 40 X 6 mm tags bolting the 2 rims together.
When I lit it up the first time it was a while before I could get any heat out of it because the cast is nearly 25 mm thick. Once alight and going it sure pumped the heat out
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod
