    Default Basic Welding project

SWMBO agists a horse at a riding school that had to move premises a few weeks ago. At the previous premises, SWMBO and a few other agistees had been renting (at great expense) a sea container to use as a tack room but the new premises came with a tack room for agistees but it had no door so only the less valuable stuff could be store there and our living room at home became the defacto saddles etc storage place. When I complained I was asked to come up with a door solution!

Someone had a door that fitted but it was only a thin ply panel door so I whipped up this sort of security screen from 3 x 25 mm fat bar that sits on the inside of the too. SWMBO asked me to add some hooks so I just bent some horseshoes and welded them into place. The welding was by far the easiest part. The door way was not square or planar, and aligning the original hinges/lock etc to suit the old door frame was a right PITA.

It's far from bullet proof but it's a significant improvement on no door at all.

Oh Bob....you fell into that one....surely you could see it coming.
To have the "Tack Overflow" in the lounge room.....she had you figured even before the gear hit the floor.

Yes double doors are never real easy of quick to fit and line up. Looks like you did a good job.

Are you going to get your own horse to ride with Wifey???? (No need, I can here you all the way over here...."Bugger the bloody horses". The village where we live has a lot of people riding around it from time to time. There is a Farmers Co-Op that very well out of the horse population
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

It's far from the first time too.

I know two things about horses they bite at one end kick from the other, and that's about it.

Horses are why I quickly lost interest in moving to a 5 acre lot as requested by SQMBO. Sure I'd get a nice big shed, but no chance to get into it as I'd always be fixing something.

When my eldest daughter was in Year 2 or 3 she came home from school and asked if she could have a horse...my answer..."I would open my wallet in the open air and throw away $10 bills". The line was wasted on her but years later she understood what I meant. (I have heard it said about owning a boat too)
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

    Default More uses for horseshoes

I came back from the stables when I installed the door described in the previous posts with a bunch of horseshoes which SWMBO wanted made up hooks for hanging up "tack" in the tack room.

This is what I came up with.

The base looks small but it is 320 mm diameter x 12 mm thick piece of steel plate with a 20 mm female BSP joiner welded into the middle.
Black plastic adjustable feet came from an old books shelf I found by the side of the road
Column is 20 mm galv pipe rescued from a skip at work.

A small collar held in place on the column by a grub screw defines the height of the tri-arm horseshoe-hook-rack.
A telfon washer acts a as a bearing so the rack arms can rotate as needed.
The horseshoe on the top of the valve pipe is welded to a short stub that sits inside the pipe.

The only things I paid up front money for was the grub screw
25x25x2.5mm SHS used for the 3 arms was left over from another project.

I asked SWMBO what colour she wanted from my stash of spray cans - she chose the "My little pony metallic blue" which is the colour I use for electric motor refurbs.
The horseshoes are finished with clear polyurethane.

Whoops "W" not "Q" (it was just a slip as they are next to each other on the keyboard)

She who must be obeyed! Made famous by Rumpole of the Bailey.
Is it legal? I don't understand the question.
