    Thanks John.
Pretty happy at how its running. Just need more larger jobs for it now, plus need more practice with outer position and different joints.

I was surprised with normal mig, just dialed in the basics first time and the way it went. Had to move fast though.
Don't no what went wrong with synergic pulse. Thought the first time I used it I had burn through. This sample was a cold spluttery weld. I probably had all the parameters out whack.

    OK I am officially jealous
That is a very nice machine from all reports. Looks like a whole lot of TIG'n goin' on and you will no doubt enjoy that. More addictive than the MIG I think although they both have there place.

Looks like you will definitely have to build a boat or something now. A thing that is still on my mind to do as I reckon I should be a half decent ally welder by the time I finish it off. Trouble is, already have two ally boats so at least one would have to go to finance the project..
Very nice clean interface on your Miller compared to all the knobs on my machine. Did you get the cables to go with those terminals so is it DIY cables with Miller?

Oh and did you buy it or just trialing it??

Im glad I purchased this miller tig. The quality surpasses everything I looked at. Even smells like 4 grand!!!

Almost ended up with the CEA but the one I was going to get had a software glitch. So that put me off them.

The miller has a mountain of information about it, great user manuals and are very very well made.

I purchased the machine only, with no cables. ACL did chuck in an ground lead though. Have ordered a CK torch to complete the kit.

Yep, a year of practice then hopefully boat building time.

Well I am sure it will be great, bet you can't wait to get it all fired up.
Did you order the CK locally or direct from US?

Ordered from the US John, although I believe BOC stocks CK re branded stuff.
Looked at Arczone then found Weldfabulous, much better prices from there.
A bit painful trying to piece the kit together from any site. Ended up using the 3 websites CK worldwide, Arczone and weldfabulous to find and cross reference parts and prices I needed.

Ended up getting a 150 amp flex-loc with gas saver kit, a separate rotary amp control, leather hose cover and a few spare parts for $585.65 shipped.
Now a probable 2 - 3 week wait for items to arrive. I wonder if I can hold out that long before paying BOC a visit.

OK Thanks, I can't remember which one I bought mine from now but I think it was Arczone.
I remember it was a bit frustrating try to confirm with them what I needed and what came with the cable kit. They were just trying to sell me their multi fit parts kit for $120 or something that had a lot of stuff in there I would never need. All I wanted to know is what size/type dinse connector, cable and gas fitting if any they were sending?? It was like extracting teeth.

Anyway you may as well pick up a basic torch if you can somewhere as you will probably end up with a few but you might have to try and pick up a couple of spare multi pin plugs for any torches you are running.
How do you plan initiating your arc, foot pedal or putting a switch on your torch?

Probably will get a standard torch, the problem is most of the local shops have basic stuff here and will have to order it anyway.
BOC has a few of the CK looking ones on there website. But you can count on it that the local blokes wont have it in stock and will have to order it. My bets would be I would receive the US ordered item first.

The ck rotary torch attachment provides complete on/off and full amperage control and can attach to any torch.
The miller unit does come with a spare plug so might make a foot control later on.

Thanks, those controls look good, when I can work out what would suit my TIG I should order one. They seem to be prewired for various brand machines and probably not for an Everlast so I guess so long as I order a suitable resistance pot I will just put my own plug on to suit my machine which is 7 pin. I have a few spare plugs for just an occasion. If I just copy what is in the pedal it should suffice..
I have been just using the torch mounted finger switch with upslope and downslope set on the power supply so I can use momentary action on the switch to control the amperage. So I set the welding current at about what I need and perhaps a little hot if anything and then while welding if the puddle starts to widen out, I just let the switch off which puts it into downslope and then just power back on and off as required. It seems to work OK for now but I think a good easy to operate rotary control should be better.

I had my little boat motor serviced this week and the Mechanic was showing me his T&R MIG which he has owned now for a few months. Although he said he had some anxious moments getting it set up without any decent owners manual but after getting a mate around who owns a Castolin/Fronious machine they soon had it singing nicely.
He said he has had little Ally MIG but plenty of other welding experience including Ally TIG but took to it really well. He was showing me some of the jobs he had been doing both for himself and on customers boats and it was as good as I have seen by many pro's.
He said he is not using the double pulse, just standard pulse MIG, running pretty hot to start up and backing off as he goes. So yeah he upgraded to a gun with program and power control which he is very happy with.
The only minor thing that he is having happening is occasionally the machine will stop running at a weld start and display an error code. This is fixed by restarting the machine but he said that there is a software upgrade that should fix that, he will have done shortly.

Anyway a nice looking machine and very nice welding results from what I saw.

Hows the Miller going, fired it up yet??

That up down gun sounds like the go.
Thanks John, Its good to Know how the machine runs locally. I questioned the T&R techs about my software revision and it was the newest. The older versions don't have the driver for a push pull gun, plus other bug fixes.

Received the torch early last week for the Miller but have only had a chance to play with it a bit yesterday afternoon. Dont like the amp control much, torch is really good and compact. The amp control really impedes on the feel of the torch. Glad I didnt get the built in one.
A foot control should be turning up soon, so that will be better.

OK thanks for the update, so you are almost up and running with it.
Did you get the track style control or the wheel type? I was wondering how easy they would be to operate while welding.
With my machine and torch, When not practical to use the pedal, I have just fitted a simple off - on switch zip tied to the torch and then I set the down slope so that if it starts to get too hot I can pulse the switch off and on which works fine and I am getting better at it.
Operating the switch like that seems easy enough to do while still keeping a steady hand and might just be good enough for what I do.

But I do want to upgrade my MIG gun to have the up and down controls, I think it is essential actually to have that control on the MIG because it can get very hot very fast and cold just as fast too on ally. Fortunately with the Kemppi it is already set up for it and just requires me to buy the little clip in control that plugs in to the top of my current gun. Still $150 or so which is a lot for what it is but will be worth having.

Will be good to see some pics when you get the time.

I have the track style control.
A bit larger then I would of liked plus the travel from off to flat out requires more then one finger movement. Well for me anyway. I don't have small hands either. Could of been a bit smoother as well. So for the $167 US I paid, it will be put back in its box and only used when its really needed.

Did you happen to notice what brand up/down torch it was John.
$150 sounds reasonably good for the control it provides.
