yep, that's exactly what they did. any refund I thought I was getting was applied against what I owed...... a completely full acetylene and an almost full oxy and I got $51..... but at least I'm not forking out $35 mth anymore for the rental

    Good information. Thanks for that.

I think the Bunnings bottles are the smaller size. Am I right?

    I do have a question:
Have a MIG gas bottle SpeedGas from Gasweld. I think they were the first that I knew of in Melb to to the "own your own" bottle thing.

Subsequently bought a Argon bottle from Total Tools.

What I would like to do is have them both from Total Tools. Closer to home.

Do I have any chance of cashing in the Gasweld bottle?

You'd have to ask Gasweld whether they take them back. Failing that, an ad on Gumtree or Ebay may get someone to take it off your hands.

Bunnings offer is a true size D according to their website, I think they also have those very small bottles.

I bought an E size from a Gasweld agent. I asked them this question and the answer was simple and only 2 letters. A gasweld store may be different tho, and it may depend on the salesperson.

All depends on what company is supplying the bottle and gas to the retailer. The retailers are only acting as agents for the gas companies.

Total tools seems to use Power10 gases.

    Gasweld uses Speedgas.

The bottle I bought uses Puregas.

Bunnings bottles are Coregas, which I believe Blackwoods will also swap. I think Bunnings are the only ones who do a refundable deposit on the bottle, all the others see it as a way to lock you in to them. I have a Gasweld E size for MIG, a Bunnings D size for TIG and a Keg King D size for CO2 MIG. If I needed to change suppliers, I suspect I could easily Gumtree the the Keg King CO2 bottle to a beer person on the basis it was empty, and could probably do the same with the Gasweld bottle, but probably not as many potential buyers out there.

Hey guys just a head's up on the Bunning's cylinder, My local Bunnings closed down and re-opend next door and while there a couple of days ago i asked if i could have my receipt scanned and put under my name in case i lose the receipt i was told they no longer keep copies of receipts there computers are unable to store the information

give it 5-10 years i can see some major problems with empty cylinders being flogged on ebay with unsuspecting buyers buying them without a receipt to take them back for a refill

my new bunnings is state of the art if u call it that so pick and chose where u go to buy your cylinders something i didn't think twice about untill now, since i live in Sydney next refill i will be going to another local but older store just for that piece of mind i don't end up with a $200 door stop

It's better to scan the receipt anyway as the thermo print receipt paper will fade over time.
if you don't have a scanner printer take the receipt to an Officeworks shop and get a photocopy or just plain take a pic with your phone.
    Works for me!

Nothing new here Bunnings have been recommending that customers photocopy their receipts for as long as they have been around

I'm pretty sure when i bought my oxygen cylinder i was given a full A4 size receipt at the old store and just now it was a basic everyday cashier receipt

i keep all my paper work for anything i buy infolder's but its a good piece of mind that some bunnings can keep it on record just in case i wouldn't even know how to dispose of a empty cylinder if i had one

I've just discovered the same thing at Bunnings West Ipswich. Took them back their empty D size ($200 deposit) gave them an extra $100 deposit for the bigger bottle and $159 for the contents.

My 2 local Bunnings outlets are pretty big but don' have any gas swap overs at all.

Whether it is a local OH&S thing or if they have an agreement with a local supplier not to compete against them, I do not know.

I have recently got chummy with one of the tool guys so I will ask him next time I see him.

It does seem from reading feedback on this long-running thread that conditions vary from place to place.
