Difference in Push/Pull with MIG
I read somewhere that more penetration is achieved using the Pull (backhandhand) method.
What I'm finding is that I'm getting more penetration using the Push(forehand) method.
What's right? Or is it me welding at different speeds sub-consciously?

Hi mate,
could you perhaps be pulling at a greater angle than you're pushing?

i was taught to push but, saying that i was also told by a boilermaker when i was an apprentice that you can push or pull.
i think the push thing is about chasing the gas and keeping the weld pool enveloped in the gas rather the pulling an possibly exposing the weld pool to atmospheric impurities.

I was told you can do either, since the nozzle puts out shielding gas all around the wire. I usually only pull where the position of the weld means I can see where I'm going better.

Mig welding push or pull
Pull will give more peno. This is especially true with flux wires and metal cored wires. There is a saying, if it's got slag, drag.
