BOC Smootharc180 vs Cigweld 175i
I am looking at buying a multi-process welder, and am tossing up between the BOC Smootharc Elite Multiprocess 180 and the Cigweld 175i.
I would appreciate any input from those who have used them.

Hey Viper
Although i havent personally used the BOC (EWM) 180 I do work in the industry and know people that have. The machine is german manufactured and although EWM doesnt have a name for itself yet in Australia i can tell from using some of their other machines that they are nothing but the best quality...in the leagues of kemppi and fronius in my opinion. The machine its self is a small synergic machine with programs so basically you set it to what wire your using and what thickness material and thats it....perfect every time!! Synergic controls mean that if you are a novice you will look like a pro in no time. When you mig weld and you move the torch closer or further away from the job then you are varying the voltage by doing so. With a non synergic machine such as the 175i this will cause problems as the wire speed is constant therefore giving you a pretty nasty looking weld depending on how much you shake or move. With a synergic machine the wire speed is relative to the voltage (they work in synergy) so as you move the torch closer/further away the wirespeed varies with the change in voltage giving you a perfect looking weld...awesome!!!
The down side is that its very expensive compared to the 175i and it doesnt even come with stick leads?? Let alone different drive rolls and a spiffy little bag to put it in. The 175i is not a bad little machine but a little bit clunky in the controls for my liking...but price wise a pretty good option..
If i had the money to spend on a 175i.....i'd probably save a bit more and get the EWM machine.... Best 240V multiprocess on the market it my opinion...bar none.
Hope that helps mate
