As some one that spends a lot of time trying get people to use a degree of safety in the hobby or job, it saddens me to see pics like this.
How many blokes like him will have a shortened work career and will end up with god knows what eye injuries or even blindness. Its Zhit like this that has probably contributed to buildings falling down in chinese earth quakes.
I feel the guy probably would not go this way given his choice and the PPE is probably due to some Rsole manager that has bullied his workers into these shortcuts.
I am not suggesting they all like this but theres must be enough of this crap going on to see how you can buy a lathe with a gutfull of swarf as an free extra.
I was reading on another engineering board that the yanks are getting jack of the poor quality and increasing prices. The chinese workers are sick of living away and working for peanuts and are rightfully looking for a slice of the pie.
Maybe that will make chinese manufacturing lift its game a bit.
End of rant
return to normal program.

Yeah there was a similar foto to this from China when the Olympics were on. Showed some poor shmuck welding with his Tom Cruise (Risky Business) 80's sunnies on thru a cardboard shield welding away at one of the venues. The best/worst one had to be another that was doing the rounds on the net showing workers sitting inside a large press that was operating. Pressing out bowls as I recollect. Hopefully they wiped the blood out of em before export. Pretty damned dodgy. No wonder we cant compete......
Frisky wife, happy life. Then I woke up. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

No mate ,I am not having a dig at you at all .I have seen lots of these types of photos during my research. I just had week where I have had a number of chinese products fail one after the other.
It seems we are victims of our own stupidity. We continually bought cheap nasty products and now it seems the producers of the good quality whatsits are now thin on the ground.
Its also the mindset of those workers where ever they are,who are willing to accept this sort of nonsense to do or keep a job.
Maybe if enough people will say ,hey we don't acept this sort of thing possibly some of the employment in manufacturing can come back to this country.
On the american boards,I have encountered there some intrepid souls who have this gung ho attitude to their own safety. The git er done mentality prevails overplain common sense and self preservation. To them safety costs money as per the welder photo.
It does not take a big stretch of the imagination to comprehend that this sort of action has an bad effect. How many times have you had a welded manufactured product fail due to the shoddy welding. Maybe this guy welded them.
cheers

There's another popular video I've seen where the Chinese workers wear no safety gear. They just look away while tacking with a stick welder.
For a couple of bucks an hour to employ expendable workers, these factories don't care for safety, as only economics is considered. Human life isn't valued as they don't have the same strict OHS that we take for granted (and even complain about!).

maybe their own fault
my brother still has fights at work with dick-heads who won't bother putting on a mask to wash vats with acid as it takes them 30 seconds to walk over & get one - it's not always the bosses fault.
