    Default Safe Welding Practices.

    Here are some pics on how NOT to carry out stick welding, sent to me by a friend. The mind boggles. http://imgur.com/MTzja.jpg

    Geeeez And I thought my welder was a ruffy. That's beautiful in it's simplicity though - good to get back to basics now and again

    My son who is just do his apprenticeship as a boiler maker was stunned when he went to Thailand and saw the guys welding without helmets, just looking the other way while they weld and balancing on bamboo scafolding. I'm surprised that the guy in the photo wasn't holding the rod in his teeth it about the only place left he had to go.

    Maybe its just me but,I view it is digusting that people have to expose themselves to such risks..

    It is something that will always occurr in the third world countries until they get a government that cares for their own people irrespective of wether they are rich or poor.

    Lack of accountable standards are to a partial degree contributors towards a low wage rate that enables cheap prices on the things you buy from these countries.

    Think about that next time you get cheap tools, welders and lathes sourced from some of these countries.Those unfortunate people who make them, give up a little of their health and well being with each item they make.

    Not just you Grahame,
    I would like to see an import tarriff based on living/working conditions of originating company/country, should help equalise the playing field for Aust companies who have to do the right thing wrt work conditions and could be allocated to foreign aid to help improve condtions.

    As much as I am not a fan of unionism, it has a place in society that has led to our work conditions be much healthier than many countries in the world. Untill these people stand up for their own health and conditions they will be abused and exployted by others.

    We're missing the overall picture here folks;

    These guys get paid a pittance and maybe only work a few months a year so they don't earn enough for their kids to eat
    They're probably not vaccinated against anything
    Their water supply (if they have one) is not treated for bugs and stuff
    They probably have no sewage system or crapper
    They have 10 - 12 kids so 4 can survive.
    They are probably overpopulated to start with

    In that kind of society PPE is an expensive investment that does little to improve their overall chance of staying alive.
