I've been given a 6 x 4 foot box trailer in 7/10 condition but the tyres are about 14 years old and I need to tow it 700klms home, actually its my parents trailer and since dad can't drive anymore they have no need for it.
The trailer has sat in a shed for the past 4 years and its still registered, now instead of buying 3 new 14 inch tyres I have 4 15 inch 1988 Saab mags and new tyres that would be perfect for this trailer, I scrapped the Saab after a large kamazaree Kangaroo smashed it up.
The Saab studs are slighty out compared to the current 4 stud pattern which is unknown maybe the Japanees pattern so I'd really like to make use of these rims and tyres so I'm wondering if new hubs are available as blanks so I can have them machined to suit the Saab stud pattern.
As I said the trailer is 700klms away so I can't inspect the trailer to see what I need and both parents are frail and can't inspect for me either.

HI Teardrop.Camper, Yes New Hubs are available as Blanks. An Engineering Supplier ie B.J. Bearings, Blackwoods or a Trailer Supplier should be able to Help You out.
All the Best:) Stewart

Hi T.C. Welcome aboard.

I would go and get the trailer first. If it's been sitting for a while, check the bearings before you leave.

Firstly, the stud pattern is not an issue. My information tells me your SAAB has 4 on 108mm (4-1/4") PCD, which is the same as all the early Ford 4 cyl's (Escort, Capri, Cortina), so most trailer parts places should have them on the shelf.
You never know your luck, the old rims on the trailer could already be 4.25" PCD.

The two things you need to check before you spend your 'hard-earned' on new hubs is firstly the centre hole in the mags. If this is smaller than 54mm, then there is no way you'll get the SAAB rim over the centre snout on a trailer hub. Secondly, the offset of the rim (where the tyre sits in relation to where it bolts up to the hub) will need to be close to the rims that are currently on the trailer. Otherwise you'll end up with the tyre sitting outside the guards, or rubbing on the chassis inside the guard. The only way to fix this is with a new axle.

Good luck.

Yonnee.

Good news - Center snout hole on Saab rims are 60mm, Offset of the trailer rims are 13.5 cm Saab rims 14.0 cms
I'm currently having the towbar made, they have a listing but don't stock them because of the vehicles age. 1975 Toyota Crown
