This is the same as mine, and it would be one of the handiest tools in the shed.
And at this price it's not worth thinking about JUST BUY IT.......
I paid over 8 times the price of this one.

What type of things do you do with it that make it so handy?

I find it great as a hole punch, I have made up quite a few of my own dies for different size holes.
I have even made a die for punching flutes into car panels..

I agree. So I have 'bought' it! Pick up in a few weeks.
Anyone know where a 199A is for the same money? ;)

Ok, you must punch a lot of holes then. I've sharpened dies for some guys in the past, and they were using it just as you described, but I didn't ever see the press they were using. They heard I could do it, I did the job for them, and that's the last I saw of that.

A hydraulic press is next on the agenda, but I need to make room. I'd like to power it however.

I can't understand it - the belts are guarded but there are no guards on the ram?

Mine won't fire until the guard is closed, in saying that it would be pretty easy to jerry rig it so you wouldn't have to take the time to close the guards...
I'll grab a pic when I finally get out there.....

Any chance of a photo of the die holders and dies? Do you just put the punches in the hole in the bottom of the ram? Ive got a 202 1/2A and need some ideas to tool it up.

When I want a pair of tools in a hurry, I'd consider buying the spares from Hare & Forbes for their Hand Punch machines; http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/P110
Look closely at the machine pic for the holding arrangement (or visit the store!).
If I wasn't so lazy I would buy from an industrial supplier or make my own...!
Hope that gives some ideas.

I picked it up last night- it is a little cracker!
Shall unload it this afternoon, and have a play. Where is the best place to buy industrial size vee-belts in Sydney?
cheers,
Andrew
