Finally got some time to machine a mount for my little Sako Quad .22lr

Has 33.5 MOA of taper inbuilt, which with the scope I've chosen should leave .75 milradians in reserve still allowing me to achieve a shortish zero (You'll need to excuse my mixing standards). I intend to fit a central sight & tunnel to the Quad as well for some fullbore practise, which is the point of my building the mount the way I have to ensure a very repeatable return to zero when interchanged on and off.

Dressing back the excess where the centre drill marks were, from the between centres setup

Cutting a lot of material off the Opti-lock rings (High I think).
Picked them up on ebay relatively cheaply second hand - in very tidy condition
(...and I just cut the #### out of them)

OD turning the large locating spigot on the underside of the modified rings, using the boring head.

Here it is 97% completed with an M40a1 mount I happened to have stashed, thrown in for comparison.
Machined the S/S Claws that will clamp into the dovetail, those garish hex bolts are the only M5x.8 ones I had & will be replaced with nicer dome head ones at my next convenience.

still a little deburring to do etc - but I'll just use it for now and when I accumulate enough little projects I'll clean them all up and look to have someone Ceracoate the lot.

Nice job:brava
Did you do it 'because you could' or because it fulfilled a function not available in other mounts?

I have to say nice work. You sank a lot of time into that and it looks top notch.

I've got the Sako Finnfire, also with the range stock. Lovely guns.

Hi Glen,

I was going to have a go about the agricultural look of the hex head bolts but given your background I'll let you get away with it. :D

Stylish execution. Well done.

Hi all, a belated thanks for your kind comments - yeah there was definitely a bit of work involved but ultimately achieved the desired result. The taper calculations worked out to be spot on, leaving the bare minimum of elevation adjustment in reserve - can achieve the 30m zero I was after using only 1 milradian of the scopes internal elevation and everything else is up + there's additional holdover with the reticle if required (though its getting to be reaching out a fair distance with the venerable old .22lr).

Also have replaced those bolts for bob ;)

Never did get around photographing it in the daylight at the time, so here's a quick update.

Superb Glen.:2tsup:

The button heads do look the part. I haven't machined much alumimium, are you using 6061?

Bob.
